Sixteen year old Jim Gordon IV was the overall winner when he best 57 anglers in the 9th Annual Mr. B's Smallmouth Bass Contest held recently. Gordon, of Appleton, weighed in two fish that totaled 9.49 pounds to take the title. He also recorded the big fish for the tournament, a 5.15 pound smallmouth that he caught off Sturgeon Point in Lake Erie. The youngster was fishing with his Dad, Capt. Jim Gordon III, when the big boy hit. He won $697.50 for the win and big fish, enough for a car and a laptop computer. Thirty-nine feet of water was the magic depth and they used both crabs and shiners. Second place was Mike Walaszek of Sanborn with a two fish total of 9.22 pounds. He won $256. John Hayes of Niagara Falls placed third with a two-fish weight of 8.83 pounds, earning $171. Just out of the money in fourth was Capt. Matt Cipollitti with 8.58 pounds, just a fraction more than Capt. Frank Campbell with 8.44 pounds.
